"The Raven" was written by Edgar Allan Poe. The mood of the poem is sad and suspenseful. Edgar Allan Poe was one of North America’s greatest literary figures. He had a sad life. That makes an effect on his written. This poem has first person point view of first. It takes place in a cold and dark December night. The poet was tired and sad. He heard someone rapping on his door when he was rapping. He opened the door, but no one was there. It says in the poem: "here I opened wide the door; again, he saw a raven when he opened the door again. The raven flew in and sat on for the head of a statue over the door, when the poet asked for its name, it said "Nevermore."

The mood of the poem was sad because the poet was sad "from my books surcease of sorrow; -sorrow fore the lost Lenore." It is suspenseful because when the first time the poet opened the door, he didn’t see anything only darkness, but he heard someone whisper "Lenore." The second time he opened the door a raven came in. these make the story mysterious. The poet uses some poetic device in the poem, like in "Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before" it use alliteration; in "but with mien of lord of lady" it use example of metaphor; in "the rate and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore" is assonance; He also uses rhyme in his poem, each stanza has the same rhyme scheme.

I like this poem. I think it shows the poet’s real feeling. The way the poet is telling the things happened make the readers easy to get in mind. Also, the writer knows how to make readers feels interesting, make them want to continue read and get what is the poem really talking about and what the end of it.
